Workshop Description:  In this Hospice Massage training class, students will learn about every aspect of working with clients and their families at the end stages of life.  Students will learn how to adjust their massage therapy routines and mindsets to work in the most safe and effective manner for those with advanced illness.  Subjects will include stages of death and dying, symptom management and common contraindications of advanced illness.  There will be a focus on universal precautions and proper documentation when working with a healthcare team.  Students will learn massage techniques as well as proper body mechanics and self care.  We will discuss the emotional components of working with this specialized population as well as how to work most effectively with a variety of illnesses and symptoms.  At the end of this 3-day workshop, students will demonstrate a proficiency in what it means to work as a hospice massage therapist.  This will be demonstrated in both written and hands-on forms.

Instructor Bio: Jennifer Yaggi DiSilvio is a licensed massage therapist and Reiki Master with extensive training in both Hospice and oncology massage.  She has been a member of medical teams at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, The Norma Phriem Breast Care Center and is a longtime member of a hospice team.  Jennifer has been part of the educating and hiring process for many massage therapists entering the Hospice field and has written for Massage Magazine about Hospice Massage.  For more information, visit www.peacefulspirithospicemassage.com.  

What to Bring: Two sets of massage linens, 2 pillows and pillowcases, as well as massage lotion or cream (no massage oil).  Please wear comfortable clothing for the clinical component of class.
