In this Sports Massage Class, the student will be presented various aspects of
Sports Massage. The class will be very hands on and participative. No power point
The following topics will be discussed and learned:
-What is Sports Massage
-Who Uses Sports Massage
- Effects and Contraindications
-Sports Massage Strokes
-Pre- Event Massage ( situations and practice)
-Post -Event Massage (situations and practice)
-Maintenance Massage for Athletes
EVENT SPORTS MASSAGE-
We will set up and actual outdoor venue under a tent and practice situations as if we were at an actual sports event.
We will discuss what to bring to a sports event, how to manage traffic in and out of your tent, what type of sports massage to use and how to effectively market yourself.
Introduce various massage tools and modalities to use for your clients and for yourself for self care. Included will be : Foam roller, lacrosse balls, massage rolling sticks, IASTM (Muscle Scraping Tools), and a demo of cupping.
AIS (ACTIVE ISOLATED STRETCHING)-
Introduce and practice Aaron Mattes’ dynamic muscle lengthening and fascial release. We will be doing this with parnters and individually for self care. (8 ft. stretching strap included)

Instructor: The class will be taught by Jim Earley , LMT, Board Certified, Sports Massage therapist. Jim has been providing sports massage for 26 years to many colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic area and currently works with 30 teams at 14 colleges and universities as well as the Chesapeake Bayhawks Pro Lacrosse team. He was also Olympian Michael Phelps’s
first massage therapist and traveled with him for several years.
